Where Has the Year Gone?
Wow,...the end of 2022! Who'd have thought that here we are?!
I always intend to write posts more often, but life throws curveballs and 'more often' never arrives.
I don't know about you, but when life DOES throw you those curve balls, it has a way of destabilising everything. We may find ourselves forced to navigate our way through in a way that is all about survival. One of these 'survival' mechanisms is, for example, a desire or intent to 'keep it all together' and keep on trucking on, no matter what!
Well, guess what?
As a strategy, this works up to a point, but it's not much more than a 'band-aid' solution and one that - like a band-aid – has to come off eventually.
So then what?
This is often when the going gets really tough, and you must find a different way to manage the curve balls.
That's me this year. One thing after another. And I'm not there yet'. But one of the things I have had to do is 'let go' of the belief that I could control those things that are outside my control. Especially this silly notion that these things ever were in my control.
Because they never are, really.
Letting go. Changing perspective. Finding ways to cope with curve balls and not sinking under the weight of it all.
It's not just letting go of what doesn't serve us. It's letting go of the illusion of control and the expectations that this illusion creates- expectations that drain and overwhelm.
A Wish for the New Year
So this is my wish for you in 2023.
That you find those nuggets of inner strength that serve you when times are tough and the ability to discern and let go of those things which ultimately don't serve you, your family, your health and wellness.
Sounds easy, a small thing even. But believe me, life is tough, and if you are not at the helm of the ship of your life that you are sailing, something may come along and sail that ship for you.
Cultivating the skills to support yourself in letting go of what doesn't nurture you with grace and courage is a gift. Taking time for yourself, being more mindful, setting boundaries, learning to say no to what hinders or challenges our values in a non-constructive way, and practising small acts of kindness to self – aka, self-care – can help steer you in this direction. Over time, these skills can become second nature and can be life-saving. True story!
With this in mind, I hope that 2023 is the year that you reconnect with those skills- or learn them and that the New Year brings joys and gifts of the heart that are beyond your wildest imagination…..no matter how crazy life may get!
Take care. Stay safe. And see you on the other side!
